New 2014 Dodge Challenger
New 2014 Dodge Challenger Review
For Sale @ Unique Chrysler Burlington (between Oakville & Hamilton)
The ability to remain current while still sticking to your heritage is a tough balance to achieve, yet the 2014 Dodge Challenger managed it with ease. It is the most faithful reproduction of muscle cars on the market and one of our favorites on the road.
The design is that ideal balance between retro and modern. There are definite cues from the 1970s, while also factoring in modern tastes. That huge hood, narrow front grill and round headlights balance the big air dam and low ground clearance.
The hood bulges nicely, hinting at the power underneath. The sides have a single detail line running all the way to those wide hips and the single light cluster running the entire width of the rear end is classic Dodge. To be relevant, the Challenger uses modern colors even in the stripe and cutting edge alloys.
Inside, the balance between modern and vintage is also struck. The recent upgrades to the interior remain, including the new three-spoke steering wheel make the inside a nice place to be. We would prefer the windows to be larger, but that would compromise the high waist and roofline, so we're content to compromise.
The rear seats can easily hold two adults, the front seats are comfortable and supportive and the dashboard is well laid out. It's a no-nonsense muscle car interior. It doesn't shout technology or luxury, but it does enough to satisfy while also making you feel part of the car.
Engines is where it's at with muscle cars and the 2014 Dodge Challenger doesn't disappoint. The 3.6-liter V6 options produces 305 hp and 268 lb-ft of torque. The 5.7-liter V8 delivers 376 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque and the 6.4-liter V8 delivers 470 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. All send power to the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual for the SRT8.
The 2014 Dodge Challenger is available as SXT, SXT Plus, Rallye Redline, R/T, R/T Plus and R/T Classic. The Challenger SXT offers 20 inch alloy wheels, climate control, leather steering wheel, chrome filler cap and CD audio. The SXT Plus adds leather interior, heated front seats, upgraded audio, automatic lighting and Uconnect.
The Rallye Redline offers unique exterior trim, 20 inch alloys, rear spoiler, paddle shifters and lots of options in the Super Sport Package. The three R/T trims all have the option of the Hemi V8 as well as a hood vent, body stripes, polished alloy wheels, HID headlights and Nappa leather interior.
The 2014 Dodge Challenger is a well-conceived balance between modernity and classic. There is enough here to satisfy both the muscle car purist and the modern buyer. That's a hard balance to strike, but one we think Chrysler have gotten just right.
