Simple Dos and Don’ts of Buying a New Car in Paris

Simple Dos and Don’ts of Buying a New Car in Paris

Buying a new car in paris is a relatively straightforward process but it’s easy to be caught up in the moment, be seduced by shiny new cars and spend money we don’t have on features we don’t need.

That’s why we created this simple guide to the basic dos and don’ts of buying a car. All designed to help you get the car you need without getting yourself into financial trouble.

Do check your financial position before you commit

A Paris auto loan is a financial commitment. One you will need to service for between 3-7 years. Make sure you’re in a good position to maintain payments and keep paying the loan.

Check that you can afford repayments, that it won’t leave you short and factor in interest rate rises if you also have a mortgage. If you know you can afford the car loan, you’re good to go.

Don’t get carried away in the dealership

Dealerships are full of shiny cars and lots of inducements to overspend. Try to ignore as much of that as possible. Set yourself a budget, get a needs and wants list and stick to it.

Better still, buy your car online and avoid many of the temptations the average dealership has going on!

Do set that budget

Budget setting is a key component of buying a new car. We are all tempted by the next model up, by newer models, extra technology, leather interiors or whatever gets you going.

However, they are all opportunities to overspend. Something we just don’t want to do. Set your budget, use that needs and wants list and stick to your guns.

Don’t just look at monthly Paris auto loan payments

Owning a car is about much more than making the payment each month. There’s gas, insurance, maintenance, spares and repairs to manage too. Maintenance and repairs will be minimal if you’re buying new but insurance could be higher.

Make sure to look at the big picture when you’re planning your loan.

Do check your credit score and report before applying for an auto loan

We would recommend doing this as soon as you make your mind up to get a new car. It will tell you where you are, what you could borrow and gives you the opportunity to increase your score, make any corrections on your report and prepare it for the loan.

Even a few points increase in your credit score could make a difference in how much interest you’ll pay.

Don’t sign without reading the contract

This is something we see all too often. People signing the loan agreement without reading it properly first. Yes we know it’s legalese and we know it’s boring, but you have to know what you’re getting into.

We do our best to explain everything beforehand but it’s your loan so it’s your responsibility to know what you’re getting into.

Can you think of any dos and don’ts around buying a car or Paris car loans? I’m sure you can think of some!
