Key things to bear in mind when considering an EV

Canadians who are tired of paying too much for gas and want to save money may consider purchasing an EV. Whether we like them or not, electric automobiles are here to stay, as our Binbrook auto loans team explains.

While fossil fuels are a finite resource that should be saved at all costs, electricity has the potential to be a renewable resource.

Are electric cars suitable for winter driving in Canada?

Most Canadians believe that warm, reliable climates like those in Hawaii or San Diego are the only areas where EVs are practical.

While there were some issues with the first generation of new EVs, they are no longer a problem.

For those who are unfamiliar with the term, range anxiety is the worry that you will run out of juice before reaching your destination or discovering a location to charge your electric vehicle.

The range of an EV can be impacted by low winter temperatures of 20 below zero, but so can the range of gas-powered vehicles.

Simply warm up your EV in the morning by plugging it into your level 2 home charger, and you're ready to go.

Another issue facing those who purchased EVs in the first generation was the persistent shortage of charging infrastructure.

Fortunately, there has been a strong drive to install level 3 charging stations at petrol stations that are embracing this new technology, like Petro Canada.

Install a level 2 charger in your home, and you'll be compensated for all or most of the expense. If you want your EV to constantly be fully charged, these chargers are ideal.

EVs cost a lot of money and are only affordable to wealthy individuals

This is a rumour that was undoubtedly exaggerated by those who oppose drivers switching lanes.

Even though certain EVs can be very expensive, they are high-end versions that are comparable to gas-powered vehicles.

An EV costs a little over $40,000 to purchase, and as more are produced by the major automakers, the cost is decreasing. This economy of scale will eventually lower the cost of EVs.

Why you should get an electric car as soon as you can

An EV can withstand all four seasons in Canada, and as time goes by, the science behind them will only advance.

Over time, the cost of gasoline won't decrease. You must choose whether to reduce your driving now or whether you want to continue paying more for gas in the future due to carbon taxes.

You owe it to yourself to go out and test-drive some of the fantastic EVs that are available.

After driving an electric vehicle, it will be difficult to switch back to a gas-powered vehicle, especially when you consider the amount of money you may be saving.

You can still acquire a loan for an electric vehicle (EV) from dealerships close to you even if your credit isn't fantastic, but you need to get in touch with them straight once.
