Are EVs safe to drive during the winter in Grimsby?

Canadians tired of being gouged at the pump and looking for a way to save money should consider getting an EV.
The electrification of the automobile industry is here to stay whether we like it or not; electricity is a renewable resource, while fossil fuels do have a finite supply that should be conserved as much as possible.
Are EVs suitable for Canadian winters?
Most Canadians are under the impression that EVs are only good in areas where the weather is warm and consistent, like Florida or California.
While the first generation of EVs has some limitations, those limitations are a thing of the past.
- Range anxiety was and is still the fear of running out of juice before you reach your destination or can find a place to recharge your EV. In the Winter, when the mercury drops to twenty below zero, it can have an impact on the range of your EV, but the cold also impacts the range of gas-powered vehicles. You simply warm up your EV in the morning while connected to your level 2 home charger, and you are good to go.
- Lack of charging infrastructure was another reason why the first generation of EV buyers experienced challenges; fortunately, there has been a dramatic push for level 3 charging stations to be installed at gas stations like Petro Canada.
- You can also have a level 2 charger installed in your home and get reimbursed for all, if not most, of the cost. These chargers are ideal if you want to keep your EV fully charged at all times.
EVs are expensive and only for wealthy buyers
This is an urban myth that was probably exaggerated but people who are trying to dissuade drivers from making the switch.
While there are EVs that can set you back a considerable sum of cash, those are the luxury models which are comparable to gas-powered cars.
You can buy an EV for just over $30k, and the asking prices for these vehicles are going down as the major car makers start to ramp up production.
This economy of scale is going to make EVs more affordable in the years to come.
Making the case to buy an EV sooner rather than later
An EV can handle all four seasons in Canada, and the technology that goes into them is only going to get better over time.
Something that will not get better over time is the price of gasoline; with carbon taxes driving up the price of gas at the pumps, you need to decide whether now is the time to cut your reliance on gasoline or continue to feel the pain at the pump.
There are some great EVs out there to choose from, and you should do yourself a favor by test driving them; once you have driven an EV, you will find it hard to go back to a gas-powered vehicle, especially when you look at the money you could be saving.
Even if your credit is on the poor side, there are dealerships in your area that can get you approved for an EV car loan, but you need to contact them today.
